Cristina Aguayo-Mazzucato
Principal Investigator
Dr. Aguayo-Mazzucato was born in Barcelona, Spain. She received her MD degree in General Medicine and her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the National Autonomous University in Mexico (UNAM). In 2007 she joined the laboratory of Prof. Susan Bonner-Weir at Joslin Diabetes Center as a postdoctoral fellow studying beta-cell functional development and developed strategies to enhance functional maturity in vitro for cellular replacement therapies for diabetes.
In July 2019 she established the Beta Cell Aging Lab at Joslin Diabetes Center which aims to understand the molecular progression of senescence and identify alleviating strategies that have a positive impact in the prevention and treatment of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.
